* We had a brief eruption in Halema`uma`u crater of the Kīlauea Volcano. The eruption began Sunday, September 10, and stopped on September 16. Though September is a slower month for visitors, those who were on-island flocked to Kīlauea for this viewer-friendly event. Of course, any eruption at Kīlauea brings the inevitable “vog,” or volcanic haze that obscures the views in West Hawai`i and can be a problem for people with breathing impairments. Those who feel the effects of the vog should stay indoors, in air conditioning if possible, and hydrate. * Who’s hungry? The Kailua Village Business Improvement District rolls out a new Street Eats food truck festival offering a wide variety of cuisine options from food trucks and vendors from around Hawaii Island. Street Eats, A Kailua Village Food Truck Festival kicks off Saturday, October 7 and returns Saturday, December 2. From 11 am to 5 pm, Alii Drive will close to vehicle traffic as food trucks line up in Historic Kailua Village offering a variety of the island’s best food trucks and food vendors of all kinds.

* If youʻre an Ironman World Championship fan, youʻll want to cheer on the women Saturday, October 14, during the VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i. This yearʻs event hosts the very best female professional and age group triathletes from around the world on a 140.6-mile course which includes swim/bike/run challenges. * If the triathlon is not your scene, plan to drive to the east side of the island for the Volcano Art Center Forest Fair, a one-day celebration of Hawai'i's healthy native forest.
